Enrolling PK-12th - We Enroll All Year Long!
My name is Rosie Higuera and I'm very excited to be a part of your children's learning.
I have a B.A. in Liberal Studies from San Diego State University and an Early Education Program Director Permit in Child Development from the California Department of Education.
I've had over thirty years of teaching experience working with children of all ages from birth to adolescents. Part of my experience is being a School Program Director and training teachers while ensuring quality programs. I am currently the head and lead teacher of the preschool department at the Freedom of Choice Student Center Homeschool.
Mrs. Rosie's preschool children start as early as three years old (or close to three). Those beginning at the age of three will stay in preschool for two years. Our goal is for students to graduate ready and well-prepared for the promotion into kindergarten.
Throughout the year, our preschoolers learn the basics of academic concepts in literacy, math, science, and history. They also enjoy learning art, music, and engineering.
Our preschoolers learn to master both gross motor skills (which involve large physical movements) and fine motor skills (such as manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination).
Students learn social and school-readiness skills (focusing, listening, using positive self-talk, and being assertive). We also learn calming down strategies and skills in making friends, sharing, and taking turns. Each week, students attend group guidance counseling lessons to practice these skills with Ms. Kathy, the school counselor.
Our preschoolers have fun learning science which helps them to understand the world around them and make sense of the things they see and experience. Our collaborative and engaging scientific activities and experiments help develop a strong sense of curiosity, critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
Our preschoolers learn to think critically and be innovative by building things with their ideas and using different materials. They are actively engaged in fun projects which helps deepen their understanding of fundamental concepts. They also learn important skills, such as sharing space and materials, working in groups, and using good manners.
We encourage creativity by using art and music in our preschool program. Our preschoolers develop strong small motor skills to paint, write, glue, use clay, make collages, sing and dance.
We teach and encourage our students to ask questions and learn to be critical thinkers. Our goal is for students to learn how to think, not what to think.
MONDAY - THURSDAY, 9 am - 1 pm
Our Preschool Program operates on the notion that preschoolers have limitless potential and are highly capable of thinking and figuring out how things work. Our program is fun, interactive, and hands-on. Small children learn best in an environment where they feel safe, loved, and secure.
Children provide the ideas that they are interested in and we as teachers facilitate their learning based on their interests and level of development. Each child is unique and special, we provide rich learning opportunities that help children develop in the following areas: Social-emotional, self-regulation skills, language, STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art, and math), music, culture as well as many other areas.
Class Size
The preschool class size maximum is 10.
Resources
FCSCH is happy to provide all daily curriculum and resources for you. Parents are responsible for optional supplemental resources not provided by FCSCH.
Policy
All students must be completely potty-trained.
During the year, Mrs. Rosie creates an individualized portfolio for each child. Each child will go home with their personal portfolio at the end of the school year. It's so fun to see what the student's did and how much they grew throughout the year!
Preschoolers ready for kindergarten will participate in a graduation ceremony at the end of the school year (optional).
